  Central Berkeley

Downtown: First developed in the late 19th century, dynamic Downtown Berkeley offers all the modern conveniences. Residents of this concentrated district are within walking distance of the Downtown Berkeley BART station, a farmer's market, half a dozen movie theatres, the world-renowned Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and hundreds of restaurants. Historian Susan Dinkelspiel Cerney notes, "a well-preserved historic downtown the size of Berkeley's is very rare in California."
